New BVIAA Executive Committee to be Elected on Monday

 

The BVI Athletics Association logo was creted by Assistant Secretary Michel Penn, as part of the rebranding process in 2009

OCTOBER 10—The BVI Athletics Association will hold its General Meeting on Monday, October 15, at which elections for the Executive Committee for the 2012-2016 quadrennial will be held.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Elmore Stoutt High School Lecture Room 1.

Those nominated for Executive Committee positions are:

President: Dean “The Sportsman” Greenaway and Karl Scatliffe;

Vice President: Steve Augustine.

General Secretary: Delva Thomas and Angeleta Bernard

Assistant Secretary: Angeleta Bernard

Treasurer: Willis “Chucky” Todman and Wendell “Pow” Gaskin

Athlete’s Liaison: Adriana Herbert.

Public Relations Officer: Paul Hewlette.

Following is a summary of activities by the outgoing administration.

On February 10, 2009 the BVI Amateur Athletics Association was rebranded as the BVI Athletics Association with the creation of a new logo. The rebranding was keeping with the International Association of Athletics Federations in the era of professional athletes.

Championships

2009—Expanded format of BVI Youth Championships

2010—OECS Half Marathon held in the territory for the first time

2011—XIV CAC Age Group Championships staged in the BVI for the 1st time, attracting 20 countries and 139—11-12 and 13-14 athletes—both records

2011—Hosted a leg of the NACAC 10K Series for the first time

2012—Leeward Islands Jr. Championships

Recognition

2009—Athletes Awards Recognition Gala, 1st ceremony held Jan 2, 2010

2009—Sol BVI Athletes of the Year in Youth, Jr. and Sr. Male and Female divisions on Jan 2, 2010, Dec 30, 2010 and Dec 28, 2011. Fourth ceremony planned for Dec 28, 2012.

2009—Division awards—Youth, Junior and Senior— for Track Events, Field Events, Combined Events

2010—Presented awards to all 1957-1970 Victor and Victrix Ludorums, who competed before the association was formed in 1970.

2010—During BVI Athletics 40th anniversary, honored all former Presidents for their service to the BVI Athletics Association, 1970-2008, with Lifetime Achievement Awards

2011—Lifetime Achievement Awards to Rose Phillips King-Adams and Theda Bucknor-Forbes who had a combined 37 years of service to the BVIAA between 1971 and 2002.
