Tahesia Harrigan-Scott will be competing in her fourth IAAF World Championships with appearances in 2005, 2007 & 2009
APRIL 21—For the fourth time in her career, British Virgin Islands sprinter Tahesia Harrigan-Scott has qualified for the IAAF World Championships in the 100m dash.
The territory’s double sprint National Record holder ran a season’s best of 11.33 seconds in her specialty at the 6th Tom Jones Memorial Classic in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday, placing third overall.
Harrigan-Scott who hasn’t tackled the 200m much since she ran 22.98 in 2007, then followed up with another season’s best of 23.37 in the half lap to finish fourth in her heat with the day’s 11th fastest time.
Harrigan-Scott joined her cousin Chantel Malone—who last week leapt 6.68m in the Long Jump—as the BVI’s second athlete qualifying tor the Aug 10-18 World Championships in Moscow, Russia. Harrigan-Scott represented the territory at the 2005, 2007 and 2009 editions of the World Championships, while Malone qualified for a second consecutive time in the Long Jump.
Malone, competing at the Texas Longhorns Invitational on Saturday, won her 200m heat in a wind aided 23.78, +3.0 mps to finish sixth overall.
At the 55th Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California, ex Portland State Vikings standout Karene King, was second in the Women’s Olympic Development 200m in 23.37 seconds on Saturday. She placed third in Friday’s 100m dash, equaling her 11.65 season’s best.
Former Illinois quarter miler Ashley Kelly, was fifth in the LSU Tigers Alumni Gold 400m in 53.78—as season’s best. She was seventh in her 200m heat with a windy 23.62, +2.5mps, the 11th fastest mark of the day.
Morgan State Bears Sr. Britney Wattley ran a 100m season’s best of 11.73 seconds to finish third in her school’s Legacy Meet. She won her preliminary heat in 12.02. Wattley finished fifth in the 200m with a time of 24.47, with a +2.1 mps wind. Her time was the 11th best mark of the day.
She ran third leg on the 4x400m Relay that also included St. Thomas’ Sianna Wynter on anchor, with the team placing third in 3:48.00.
Elsewhere, American Heritage High School Sr. Khari Herbert was second in the 400m of the Florida 2A Region 4 competition on Friday night in 47.86 seconds, .06 off his best recorded during the Carifta Games earlier this month.
His Carifta teammate Tahj Malone scaled the High Jump bar with a personal best of 1.87m (6’2”) to place second in the Florida Class 1A Region 2 championships in Orlando. Malone is a Sophomore at Montverde.
