4th Straight LIME Jr. Championships Sprint Double For Huggins

Arianna Hayde finishes off a personal best Long Jump leap of 5.10m during her first Heptathlon

MARCH 24— Nelda Huggins of Top Notch Track Club, a two times Carifta Games U17 Girls 100m silver medalist, won her fourth straight BVIAA-LIME National Jr. Track and Field Championships sprint double to highlight the weekend competition.

The meet attracted athletes from St. Croix’s Hounds and Foxes, St. Thomas’ Cheetahs Track Club, and UVI athletes, who competed against athletes on BVI track clubs from Top Notch, Fast Lane, Sprint Tech and Virgin Gorda’s Raw Skillz.

Huggins ran 12.05 seconds in the U18 Girls 100m semis and 11.96 in Friday’s final. She ran 25.05 seconds in Saturday morning’s 200m semis, then returned during the evening to complete her fourth straight Jr. Championships sprint double in 24.65 seconds.

“I’m not happy with that 11.96, because I was looking for something like 11.80 today,” Huggins said. “I’m feeling good in my training. I want to run in the 11.5s in the 100m and 23.90s in the 200m. For the Carifta Games, I want to get the gold because I’ve been coming back with silvers,” she added. “I want gold this time.”

Kyron McMaster of Fast Lane Track Club easily strode to an U18 Boys 200/400m double in 22.79 and 50.67 seconds respectively, after running 22.80 and 49.42 in the prelims.
