Lady Bears Set 4X100 Relay Record; Finish Fourth At MEAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 7, 2012)–The rain over the weekend could not stop the Lady Bears track and field team from winning gold in four events and placing fourth overall with 80.50 points at this year's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at North Carolina A&T State University.

The Lady Pirates of Hampton tallied 136 points to win their ninth MEAC outdoor title. Maryland Eastern Shore followed in second-place with 106 points and host North Carolina A&T took third with 84 points.

Lady Bear Monae Waller captured the first gold medal of the championships on Thursday, winning in the high jump with a personal-best height of 1.75m, coming 5 meters short of the current MEAC record set by Lady Bear Brittany Robinson in 2006 with a distance of 1.80m. In the same event Lady Bear Jeanelle Ovid placed tied for fourth with a distance of 1.66m.

In the javelin throw, Ranita Mealer represented the Lady Bears well with a first-place victory, while setting a personal-best with a distance of 145-04. She also placed 5th overall in the shot put with a distance of 45-07.00.

On the track the Lady Bears performed well, as the 4X100 meter relay team of Teyanna Green, Charisma Green, Ekundayo Sobesan and Britney Wattley set a new MEAC record in the event in a time of 44.93.
