Maloney Mines Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships 400m Silver

FEBRUARY 25—Portland State Vikings Sr. Dominique Maloney obtained another goal on Saturday night at the Big Sky Indoor Conference Championships in Bozeman, Montana, when she mined 400m silver and All Conference 200m honors, before anchoring the 4x400m relay to victory.

Her performance helped the Vikings to tie their best finish in school history in the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships where they placed second with 93 points.  

Maloney won her 400m heat in a school record 55.28 seconds to place second overall, achieving two goals in the process—improving her own school record and getting on the Big Sky Conference Championships podium. She advanced to the final after running 55.83—her third race this season under 56.00 seconds.

Maloney followed up with a fifth place finish in the 200m in 24.60 seconds, after advancing with an indoor personal best of 24.51—moving from outside to #3 on the Vikings’ All Time Top 10 List. She anchored the 4x400m relay to victory in 3 minutes 46.50 seconds and a school record, eclipsing the 3:46.80 established last year, when she also anchored the squad.

Herbert equals 400m season’s best

American Heritage High School Sr. Khari “KJ” Herbert Jr., equaled his 400m season’s best during the Louie Bing Meet in Miami, Florida over the weekend. He was second overall in the final in 48.43 seconds after running 48.17 in the prelims to match the time he ran two weeks ago. He contributed a 1:56.3 split to his team’s 4x800m relay that finished fourth overall in 8:31.70. Herbert Jr., also anchored the 4x400m relay in 47.78, to a second place finish in 3:20.02.

Corea qualifies for Mar 9-10 USATF Championships in three events

Z’Niah Corea, competing for the Capital City Track Club, shined in the USATF Northeast Youth Indoor Championships in Toms River, New Jersey on Sunday, and qualified for the National Youth Indoor Championships in Prince George County, Maryland, Mar 9-10 in three events. Competing in the USATF Northeast Youth Indoor Championships at the Bennett Center, she opened the day with a Long Jump leap of 4.61m (15’1½”) to place second, in the 11-12 Girls division. She won her 400m heat in 1:04.91, which stood up as the fastest time. Corea completed her day by running the 800m in 2 minutes, 43.44 seconds, good for fourth overall.

Tahj Malone clears 1.78m in High Jump

 Montverde Academy student Tahj Malone, cleared the High Jump bar at 1.78m (5’10”) on Saturday, to place sixth in the Royal Open in Orlando, Florida.
