Officials and participants alike were pleased with the turnout of more than 230 participants for Saturday's leg of the Highland Spring College Classic Series on Tortola, which supported the efforts of the BVI Cancer Society Cancer awareness activities.

Many work pink t-shirts or sported pink eye patches as they painted Paraquita Bay pink after the release of several hundred balloons before the start of the race.

"Definitely a whole lot turned out and with brilliant colors," noted winner Reuben Stoby. "I'm glad that people turned out to support the Breast Cancer initiative. "

Women's winner Rosmond Johnson said she love to see lots of people coming out and in particular for the cause. "I wish people would continue to come out and run because it's really a good thing especially for the BVI," she said. "It's really good for your health and I support that 100%. A lot of people don't know that or they know and they are being reluctant about it so its good and I encourage people to come out."

Adorya Bally, Miss BVI 2015 was among the participants running with her sasche and competing with her sister, Olivia Freeman. "There so many people who have been dying from Cancer--many in the last month," she noted. "I felt it was important to support the cause and help those who are fighting this fight and encourage them."

It was her second time participating in the series, her first time being in 2014. "It was exhausting," she noted. "I did better last year, so hopefully, I'll do better if I want to beat my sister and other people who think they are so much faster than me. I have to train my mind first to say that I will win, and my body will follow, that's how I feel."

Stoby who turned in a pedestrian 11 minutes and 50 seconds for victory, said he just ran to win. "I came to expend the least amount of energy as possible this morning as I was feeling a bit of a back strain earlier in the week and I was not sure how it was holding up," he explained. "I came to take it easy, keep just enough an amount of distance to ensure a win."

Johnson said she wasn't surprised to win this time around as in the opening race. "I didn't see anybody around--just the normal people from the long races--but I'd expected the kids to come up," she said. "There was one little girl in front running very well and then in the middle of the race on my way back I passed her. She probably got tired and stopped, but it was a good race. It was much better than the last one. I was more relaxed and it was a cool day."
