College Classic Series race participants head towards the one mile mark
OCTOBER 2—Defending champion Khiry knocked a minute off his opening time, to win Saturday’s second Highland Spring College Classic Series race on Tortola, in 11 minutes, 24.03 seconds.
Shaquoy Stephens followed in 12:16.91 and Raheem “Ras” Taylor debuted in third place with 12:26.38.
Creque is lining up to stamp his authority on the series and claim another title.
Lakeisha “Mimi” Warner chopped 11 seconds off her opening time to lead all women in 13:39.25. Tarika “Tinker Bell” Moses followed in 13:49.97, with Niayla Smith placing third in 14:22.50.
In the service clubs cross country segment, the Rotary Club of Tortola rebounded from an opening loss to their younger Rotaract Club rivals, with a resounding victory. Led by Julien Johnson, the Rotary Club of Tortola placed four runners in the top 10, to finish with 40 points. Rotary Club of Road Town followed with 56 and the Rotaract Club, 61.
Luka Chalwell upstaged race one winner M’Khori Crabbe in the Under 9 One Mile boys class, with a time of 7:13.04 to Crabbe’s 7:33.06. Zach Jackson was third again with an improved time of 7:51.30.
In the girls segment, Ariyah Smith overpowered opening race winner Vallesha Guishard for the victory in 8:24. Guishard was second in 8:42.91 followed by Kenyatta Grate.
The second leg of the Virgin Gorda series will be held at 7 a.m. on Saturday, while the next race on Tortola is scheduled for Oct 13.
