The Scoop: Juicy Races, Statement Making Results And Program Defining Wins

4. The adidas XC challenge Was The Most Compelling Meet Of The Season So Far

Talk about a juicy event.

The adidas XC Challenge in Cary, North Carolina, had just about everything, from intrigue to high performance to an enduring result from one of the nation's best.

Entering into the meet on Friday, we learned that six runners from Brentwood (Tennessee) High would be running unattached to start their seasons.

And then came competition, in which No. 1-ranked Brodey Hasty -- of Brentwood -- went an absurd 14:44.70 in a non-divisional race to win.

Davis Holliday, of Brentwood Academy (Tennessee), finished third in 16:04.80, while four other teammates of Hasty's ran 17:40.20 or faster over the course. By the way, all the runners wore their Brentwood High kits, too.

In the boys championship race, R.J. Reynolds (North Carolina) High's John Tatter blitzed the course in an impressive 15:00.70, a new career best, and then jumped into the national top 25 with the performance - No. 12 overall. Six boys were under 15:30 in the race.

In the girls race, Weddington (North Carolina) High downed Chapel Hill and a nationally ranked Blacksburg (Virginia) side with 126 points. With quality depth in its scoring five, the program averaged 19:22 over the 5K distance and did so over a 43-second spread.
