Runners in the Blenheim Trust 5K on Long Bay Beach, Beef Island

MARCH 24—Adam Cole used a little pre race motivation to win Saturday’s Blenheim Trust 5K Race on Beef Island—the second leg of the tour around Tortola—ahead of the upcoming race in Carrot Bay next month.

Cole who was second behind Zebalon McLean in the opener, finished in 18 minutes and 32 seconds, in the race that began on Long Bay Beach, Beef Island, traversed to the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, then down towards a turnaround 200m from the bridge connecting Beef Island and Tortola.

Steven Asson was second in 19:18 with Virgin Gorda’s Maxford Pipe, third in 19:49.

Claire-Louise Whiley was the top woman in 23:06. She was followed by Nimade Oniasih in 23:30 and Philomena Robertson in 23:31.

“At the very start, Zeb came up to me and made a comment about the Cricket result between Australia and the West Indies just before we left, so I thought it was good inspiration to try and get this one,” Cole explained. “Steve and I were neck and neck, but I did have a bit of a strategy, that I would break away at the 2K mark and I was able to do that and hold on. I like this course. It’s good.”
