Fast Lane Track Club's Kyron McMaster finishes off a 200m personal best of 22.13 seconds ahead of Anguilla's Mauriel Carty who was third in 22.55.
MARCH 16—On a cool twilight evening featuring the shortest program of the 2014 BVI Athletics Association Development Series, athletes on Friday night established a Shot Put National Record and personal bests ahead of the LIME National Jr. Track and Field Championships that kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Trevia Gumbs, who last month cracked the 13m Shot Put barrier for the first time in her career, unearthed a heave of 13.68m to demolish her own National Record of 13.03m in the process.
Twin sister Tynelle who threw over 12m for the first time last month, unleashed a throw of 12.51m the third best mark by a BVI female athlete. Trevia has lined up for a National Record Breakers award presented by Sol, which will be doled out during the 6th BVI Athletics Association Gala, on Dec 27. An athlete establishing an indoor or outdoor National Record that stands at season’s end qualifies for the award.
Meanwhile Fast Lane Track Club’s Kadeon Potter launched the U18 Boys Shot Put out to 15.10m for his first time over that plateau in his career.
In the Long Jump pit, Akeem Bradshaw who last week jumped a personal best of 6.54m carried the mark to 6.92m moving to #10 on the All Time List. Nine male athletes have jumped 7.00m or better.
Within the last two weeks, Kala Penn has moved from #7 on the All Time List to #4, after leaping a personal best 5.71m in the U18 Girls Long Jump following last week’s 5.64m effort.
McMaster leads track bests
With two Anguilla athletes seeking to make their U18 Boys Carifta Games team, they helped to spice up the competition. Mauriel Carty tried to improve his 11.34 seconds 100m best but had to settle for 11.41, behind Top Notch’s Ebenezer Joseph’s 11.35 win.
In the 200m, Carty who brought a 22.74 seconds mark into the race improved to 22.55 in third place behind Fast Lane’s Kyron McMaster’s personal best of 22.13 with a +1.3 wind and Joseph’s 22.54.
Carty’s teammate Aiden Hazzard chopped his 400m personal best from 52.11 seconds to 50.38 after being overhauled by Top Notch Track Club’s David Royce in the last five meters, with Royce finishing .03 ahead in 50.35. Fast Lane’s Ronique Todman was third in 50.66.
Sprint Tech Track Club’s Judine Lacey who anchored the 2013 Carifta Games U17 Girls 4x400m Relay to silver, put a string of bad 400m races behind, went out aggressive from the start to slice her 58.96 seconds best from last year to 58.11. Teammate Zacharia “Zakie” Frett was second in 58.88 to follow up 58.66 she ran earlier.
