Karene King Closes Indoor Season At IAAF World Championships

MARCH 11—Four days after closing her collegiate career for the Portland State University Vikings at the Iowa State Qualifier where she won the 200m in 23.80 seconds and was second to teammate Geronne Black in the 60m in 7.56, Karene King was about to board the plane for the 14th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey on Tuesday.

A series of delays prevented her from arriving until 12 hours before she was to compete on Saturday morning. She nevertheless, went out and gave a 7.76 seconds 60m effort under the circumstances.

“The experience has been great—but It has not really sunk in has yet because since I have been here, I have been on the go,” King said. “I am really tired.”

With the experience she notes, she’s very much motivated to work even harder and become much better she said. “See athletes on the medal stand really was an eye opener for me and I know once I continue to work at it, with God's Help that can one day be me.”

Walking away from her first global championships, the territory’s 200m indoor National Record holder said she’ll continue to work hard and stay focused ‘because there is much more out there for me.’
“My 2012 indoor season went by very quickly for me,” she reflects. “Before I could blink my eyes it was over. It had been an up and down indoor season but all in all it was a good season for me and I finished off with two personal bests and I am very thankful to God for that,” she said.
