King Runs 23.43 At Rice USA All Comers in Houston

Karene King gets 200m 23.43 PR in Houston

MAY 21—Karene King chopped .10 off her personal best to pull within .13 of the Olympic Games 200m qualifier in the USA All Comers in Houston.

King, who ran 23.53 seconds in her last outing in Los Angeles, turned in a mark of 23.43 to place second in the competition.

“I thought she got out well, but looks like her float section was a little too long and she might have lost some of her velocity during that section,” her coach Ronnye Harrison observed. “Coming home, I think her feet go away a little bit from her  and she couldn’t apply enough force when she needed to be bounding near the end and covering more territory. Overall, I still give her a B+, because that’s a personal best and the wind was legal. I’m pleased with it and there are things we can correct to make that time better.”

Harrison said he would have liked her to have a set schedule because she warmed up for a long time trying to figure out when she was actually going to run. “If I could take a few of those build ups—anyone of the 20 she took over time and narrow that down to 10—she probably would have had a little more energy at the end of the race.”
