Moses win but new Fire Chief burns field for Blenheim Trust triumph

The 2012 Blenheim Trust 5K Series Tour of Tortola wrapped up with an awards ceremony

JUNE 4—Tarique Moses made his debut and won, but it was newly appointed Chief Fire Officer Zebalon McClean—days before taking up his post—burning the field on his way to the overall Blenheim Trust 5K Series title.

Moses, a 2011 Carifta Games 800m finalist who also holds the National Youth Record in the event, overhauled Adam Cole in the final half mile to win Saturday’s series finale that ended at the finish line at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds on which he trains daily, in the race the that had tour stops around Tortola. Moses was timed in 18 minutes and 33 seconds. Cole followed in 18:37 with Adrian Dale placing third in 21:12.

McLean, who bore the brunt of possible headline jokes, flamed out to fourth with his 22:48. Since Ravi Sukhu who could have muddied the waters was absent and McLean had beaten him twice, he claimed the title.
