Huggins Advance to CAC Jr. Championships U18 Girls 100m final

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, JUNE 29—Carifta Games U17 Girls 100m silver medalist Nelda Huggins, advanced to tonight’s XIX Central American and Caribbean Jr. Championships U18 Girls 100m final, during the opening session of the three day competition this morning.   

Huggins was second in her heat in 11.91 seconds (+1.5) in the race won by Jamaica’s Saqukine Cameron in 11.77. The Bahamas’ Carmiesa Cox ran 11.93 to win the first heat.

J’Maal Alexander had a non advancing 10.72 seconds fourth place finish in his U20 Boys 100m heat, to miss one of the times posted by a fastest looser by .05 seconds. 

After fouling her first two attempts, Kala Penn—at 14 the youngest in the field— got off the board and settled for a best mark of 5.02m to place sixth in the U18 Girls Long Jump.

Eldred Henry made his regional championships debut in the U20 Boys Shot Put with a personal best heave of 16.32m with the 6k implement. 

Henry was sixth in the competition.
