Amsterdam Leads 74 to The Line in Dive BVI 5K

FEBRUARY 5—Veteran Emrol Amsterdam led a record 74 to the tape in the 2nd race of the Dive BVI 5K Series held on Virgin Gorda on Feb 2.

Amsterdam bested his first race time of 20 minutes and 02 seconds, covering the looped course from the HLSCC Virgin Gorda Center out to Guavaberry Villas and return in 19:36. “I want to thank God for the strength. The crowd really motivated me,” said Amsterdam who was followed by Ravi Sukhu and Maxford Pipe respectively in 20:17 and 20:38.

In the first race, Kathleen Brownsden who moved from St. Kitts and is prepping for this year’s Boston Marathon, ran with her 10-year old daughter. This time though, she used the race as a training run and was the first woman across the line in 21:40. “That is why I wanted to run all out today to see where I am,” Brownsden said.  Brownsden was followed by NiMade Oniash and Emily Coles who had times of 23:03 and 24:24 respectively.

“A humongous thank you to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered and cheered our participants on today,” race director Casey McNutt said. “Dive BVI’s second 5K brought out 74 amazing participants from Virgin Gorda and Tortola. Thanks also to our island visitors who dropped in to be part of the crowd. They have all done something wonderful today.”

The next race in the series is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. on Feb 23. Registration will open at 6 a.m.
