150 Pre Register For Inaugural Love Your Body Run

The Lover Your Body Run will kick off the Road Racing season on Tortola

FEBRUARY 13—Some 150 persons have already beaten Friday’s registration deadline for Saturday’s inaugural Love Your Body Run/Walk, which kicks off the 2013 Road Racing season on Tortola.

The 6 a.m. event begins at the Band Stand, turns by the High Court, heads down to Waterfront Drive, turning by the Commercial Court and on to Main Street. It continues past the Band Stand and into Lower Estate, on the fringes of Huntums Ghut and back to the Band Stand.

“We’re going to have breakfast when it’s finished, along with cholesterol testing, a physical trainer will be on hand doing demonstrations and there’ll also be a physiotherapist and we’ll have a lot more happening,” explained Dawn Crabbe Herbert of Play 2 Win Sports who is organizing the event.

“So far, we have 150 persons preregistered and we have more promises. We’re hoping to have everybody registered by Friday, so that on Saturday, we are not trying to get people registered while we are getting ready for the run,” she said. “Friday is the time for people to come and get their shirts and Saturday morning we’ll come out and have a good time.”

When asked how the event came about, Crabbe Herbert said there’s a lot going on about taking care of you body. Health Services she noted is talking a lot about fitness and health. She said a decision was taken to play a part in making sure that they keep people healthy and living a healthy, active life along with giving back to the society.

“We decided we would do the Love Your Body Run/Walk and give the proceeds to the BVI Athletics Association,” she said. “Our aim is to grow this event to 500 registered participants and hopefully, be able to factor in the Virgin Gorda society, because we don’t want to leave out the neighboring islands. We want to ensure we play that part in helping people live a healthy active life in the BVI.”

Among breakfast items will be bush tea, coconut bread and fish.

“It’s going to be a fun morning so we are inviting everybody to come out, support the event and the BVI Athletics Association as well,” Crabbe Herbert said. “This is in aid of ensuring we can keep our athletes well prepared.”

The Love Your Body Run/Walk will be followed by the Blenheim Trust 5K Series, which kicks off on March 2 and runs through May.
