MAY 21—James Carr was engaged in a spirited battled with Jacques Roux after they broke from the field, before he went on to demolish Maxford Pipe’s course record established during last year’s inaugural event, to win the 2nd Dive BVI Virgin Gorda Half Marathon on Saturday.
Carr broke Pipe’s record of 1 hour 43 minutes and 08 seconds on the challenging, scenic hilly course and improved his 1:44.41 time from last year by chipping eight minutes off to finish in 1:36.23. Roux was second in 1:36.39 followed by George Davis, 1:42:30 and Ravi Sukhu 1:42:35, also under the old record.
“We had quite a race, Jacques and James they were neck and neck the entire time,” noted event coordinator, Casey McNutt. “Jacques was on his tail and pushed him to the end and he came out with an awesome win for the men’s Half.”
Katrina Crumpler eclipsed Maria Mays’ 1:45.00 course mark by chopping 13 minutes off her 1:55.00 from last year, with a course record time of 1:42.16, to finish third overall.
“She never let up and still had gas in the tank at the end of the race,” McNutt said.
