In between a pre meet shower on Friday and a threat of rain
and Saturday's end the BVI Athletics Association National Youth Championships-which
also celebrated the 21st IAAF World Athletics Day-Ariyah Smith led the
territory's top U15 athletes and visiting athletes from St. Croix, with four
victories.
VIRGIN GORDA--For a moment during Saturday's 5th
Virgin Gorda Half Marathon, Vincent Fournier thought he'd given home turf
advantage to Tortola resident Ruben Stoby, who opened a sizeable gap.
The top U15 athletes across the territory have been invited
to participate in Friday and Saturday's BVI Athletics Association National Youth
Championships, which will also mark the 21st IAAF World Athletics
Day.
Central Arizona College sophomore Tynelle Gumbs,
systematically dominated the Region I Championships, winning three of the four
throws, ahead of the upcoming National Jr. Colleges Athletics Association
Championships on May 17-19, at South Plains College, in Levelland, Texas.
The British Virgin Islands quartet of Ashley Kelly, Tahesia
Harrigan-Scott, Chantel Malone and Karene King, competed at the prestigious Penn
Relays in the USA vs the World 4x100m relay on Saturday. They finished sixth in
44.97 seconds.
TORTOLA-Reuben Stoby and Maria Mays were the top male and
female finishers in Saturday's Dive BVI 10k Series finale-the final tune up for
the 5th annual Virgin Gorda Half Marathon and Six Miles Challenge on
May 14.

July 1-3 at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds and officials are expecting 'top
flight competition' from the sub region's athletes.

When Eric Senseman of Denver, Colorado toured the 33.4 miles Tortola Torture Ultra Marathon course on Friday-including climbs up Windy Hill to the 1528 foot turn around at Sage Mountain parking lot, then descend through Brewers Bay and over Ridge Road to Beef Island including Little Mountain and finishing at Loose Mongoose-he figured he could do it in about five hours.
Ashley Kelly made her outdoor
season debut a memorable one by becoming the second BVI athlete qualifying for
this summer's Rio Olympic Games in the 200m while Chantel Malone claimed the
Long Jump title also in a season's best at the Florid Relays.
Reuben Stoby and Katrina Crumpler were the top men and women's
finishers in Saturday's Blenheim Trust 5K Series tour stop on Beef Island,
where the women had a three minutes start on the men and only Stoby managed to get
to the line before the first woman.

and bronze medals.

Grenada on Saturday, there were no medals until Lakeisha "Mimi" Warner snatched

Throw during the morning session behind, by unleashing a National Youth Record
throw in the Shot Put, to close the BVI Athletics Association National Jr.
Championships on Saturday, which was highlighted by several personal best
performances.
Several Under 18 Girls kicked off Session I of the BVI Athletics Association National Jr. Championships last night with record performances, highlighted by High Jumper Z'Niah Hutchinson and Javelin Thrower Arianna Hayde.

Ashley Kelly joined Tahesia Harrigan-Scott as the second
British Virgin Islands female sprinter to dip under 7.40 seconds over 60m
indoors, when she cut her personal best from 7.46 earlier in the season to
7.39, at the Millrose Games in New York on Saturday. The 400m specialist,
coming off a personal best of 53.01 last week and a 23.69 in the 200m three
weeks ago, finished eight overall.

Ashley Kelly trigged a National Records streak in Boston on Friday night that included marks in Arizona, New Mexico and the BVI.
Three indoor records were set during a busy
weekend for BVI athletes in Boston and Arizona, marking the fourth straight
week a record had been broken. Records were established for 13 straight weeks
in 2015.
