JULY 14—The British Virgin Islands joined Jamaica and Barbados as the only English speaking Caribbean countries to earn a medal in the 8th IAAF World Youth Championships that wrapped up today in Donetsk, Ukraine, when the Medley Relay quartet earned silver behind the United States in a NACAC 1-2 finish.

JULY 2—A record seven athletes—four of them 2013 Carifta Games medalists— will represent the British Virgin Islands at the 8th IAAF World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, July 10-14, BVI Athletics Association officials announced. The Athletes will attend a pre championships camp July 4-8.

JULY 1—Following two days of spirited competition in five Pentathlon events at the 15th CAC Age Group Championships in Willemstad, Curacao, the British Virgin Islands’ Beyonce DeFreitas earned the 11-12 Girls Division bronze medal, after amassing 2,770 points—three shy of Bermuda’s Zekiah Lewis’ silver medal total—in the field of 38 participants.

JUNE 3—Like the BVI Twilight Invitational on which it was the under card, there was exciting action in the Leeward Jr. Invitational segment, which saw nine meet records fall and the establishing of another, in the gathering of U20 athletes with the British Virgin Islands hosting athletes from neighboring U.S. Virgin Islands, Anguilla, St. Kitts, Nevis, Dominica, Guadeloupe and Martinique.

MAY 27—Threats of inclement weather which hampered Friday’s opening day turnout gave way to sunny sky on Saturday morning and a look at the future, as Under 15 athletes from 16 schools competed in the BVI Youth Championships which also marked the IAAF World Athletics Day celebrations.
